British Airways Name Change Policy

British Airways Name Change Policy allows you to change the passenger name on British Airways flights, according to the following rules:

  • The name on a ticket cannot be changed completely to result in a change of passenger. In case of marriage, divorce, etc., you can change the name on your ticket if you provide valid documentation.
  • If all flights on the itinerary are operated by British Airways, spelling errors can be corrected for free over the phone.
    • If taxes, fees, or fuel surcharges have increased since you booked your ticket, you may have to pay an additional fee.
    • Documentary evidence may be required to support your name correction request.
  • In the Advance Passenger Information (API), updating or correcting your name (or spelling) will not affect your e-ticket.
  • By phone, you can request name changes on tickets booked directly with British Airways (website, call center, or sales office).
  • It is only possible to make name changes or corrections on tickets booked through third parties by contacting the third party directly.
  • Take advantage of British Airways’ 24-hour cooling-off period if you want to change the name of a ticket booked directly through British Airways. Within 24 hours of purchase, you can cancel your booking and receive a full refund (you can then rebook).
    • You can cancel your ticket online if you booked directly through British Airways.
    • British Airways should be contacted if you booked your ticket over the phone.

There are exceptions. You cannot make a name change on flight bookings:

  • Flights departing within 24 hours of booking.
  • You haven’t paid for it yet.
  • Packages, hotel accommodations, car rentals, etc., have different conditions (contact BA Customer Support).
  • Comair operates domestic South African-only services.

Note. You will have to cancel your flight ticket and make a new booking at the current price if you do not take advantage of the 24-hour cooling-off period.
